Christophe Lasvigne to step down as SIG Strasbourg president after SIG Arena project failure

Christophe Lasvigne will no longer be president of SIG Strasbourg from summer 2025. Having taken over the club in late 2023 as replacement for Olivier Klotz, he was strongly affected by the failure of the SIG Arena project. This was a major setback for someone who had committed to carrying an ambitious vision for the club. As his term comes to an end, a new team led by Jérôme Rosenstiehl is emerging to take over.

A new chapter for SIG Strasbourg

SIG Strasbourg’s statement is clear: only one list has been submitted for the Board renewal, with an election scheduled for April 10, 2025. Christophe Lasvigne, president for 18 months, has chosen not to run again. This decision comes amid great frustration after the definitive abandonment of the SIG Arena project last February.

This project, designed to provide SIG with a modern 8,500-seat arena, was meant to help the club reach new heights in terms of infrastructure and revenue. However, the public-private financing structure failed, particularly after a bank’s withdrawal, making it impossible to raise the necessary 45 million euros.

« Despite the unwavering efforts and commitment from public authorities and SAS Wacken Immo, the private investor was unable to secure the necessary funds, » local authorities regretted in their statement. For his part, Christophe Schalk, president of SIG & Enterprises, acknowledged: « At some point, you have to be able to admit that we may have taken the wrong path. »

A new team led by Jérôme Rosenstiehl

The Supervisory Board, focused on preparing for the future, has approved a single list for the upcoming Board. Jérôme Rosenstiehl, returning after serving as basketball operations manager for the Paris 2024 organizing committee, will lead this team. He will be joined by Bernard Braun and Jean-Louis Koessler, who are renewing their terms, along with new figures including singer Matt Pokora, who is increasing his involvement, and Clément Hagenbach, current Supervisory Board member.

No official communication will be made before the April 10 vote, but the transition is underway. With a budget to build, a team and staff to shape, and an uncertain future at the Rhenus, significant challenges lie ahead for SIG Strasbourg’s future governance.
