« We want to be champions by winning, » Nicolas Croisy repeated in Le Progrès before the showdown against ASVEL. Mission accomplished. This Saturday, April 19 at the Astroballe, JL Bourg’s U21 team validated their magnificent season with a brilliant victory (64-98), clinching the U21 French championship title.
They only needed one more win to secure the title. The Bourg team showed no signs of nerves and delivered a masterclass. From the first quarter, Nicolas Croisy’s men took control (15-26), never letting go of their grip on the game (13-25; 12-27), leading by up to 40 points before easing off in the final minutes (24-20).
Leading the charge, Wilson Jacques (2.13m, 20 years) and Léon Sifferlin (1.96m, 19 years) each scored 19 points, well supported by Khadim Kane (15) and Leeroy Nijean (14). Already dominant in scoring, Wilson Jacques also controlled the rebounds (8 rebounds including 4 offensive), earning him MVP honors for the game.
With this dominant performance, JL Bourg now boasts a record of 24 wins and only 2 losses. But the story doesn’t end here for the young Bourg team. They’ll have the opportunity to confirm their superiority at home, at the Ekinox, during the Future Trophy from May 30 to June 1.
« They deserve to finish in style at home, » says Nicolas Croisy, already focused on the next challenge. After this historic first title for JL Bourg in the U21 category, the young team from Ain wants to conclude their season on a high note.
