Before the immense challenge in Spain against Real Madrid, T.J. Shorts (1.75m, 27 years) continues to embrace his leadership role with Paris Basketball. In an interview with L’Équipe, the Californian point guard didn’t hesitate to place himself at the top of European point guard hierarchy, with the ambition to make history in his first EuroLeague season.

With impressive averages of 18.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 33 games in his EuroLeague debut, T.J. Shorts has been the centerpiece of Paris’s game. He attributes this rise largely to his coach Tuomas Iisalo, whom he followed from Bonn to Paris: « My game took off with him, he made me who I am. »
Aware of the competition level, Shorts shows respect to his rivals while confidently stating: « I believe I can say that I am the best point guard in Europe. I say this without disrespecting others, it’s just my conviction. »
He even mentions those he admires, like his upcoming opponent Facundo Campazzo, Mike James, and Shane Larkin, whom he hopes to face further in the competition. For Shorts, the Final Four isn’t a utopia but a real ambition: « There is an unshakeable faith that if we make the playoffs, anything is possible. »
Best point guard or not, T.J. Shorts is attracting attention. Several European powerhouses have already inquired about his contract situation, as has Dubai BC, with its ambitious plans, which could make him one of the faces of their project. And why not the NBA? The hypothesis isn’t far-fetched, especially since Tuomas Iisalo’s promotion to the Grizzlies.
While Paris Basket is working hard to convince the American point guard to stay in the capital, TJ Shorts still dreams of discovering the NBA. And why not in Memphis, if Tuomas Iisalo were to do more than an interim on the Grizzlies bench? ➡️ https://t.co/vekRocDw9Y pic.twitter.com/AEELsPl72T

But for now, the Californian point guard is focused on one thing: defeating Real Madrid this Tuesday, April 15, and continuing to write Paris’s history in EuroLeague.
