Tarbes does it again and eliminates Bourges in quarters, Charnay makes history

Tango Bourges Basket experienced another nightmare this Tuesday evening at the Prado. Playing against Tarbes in the playoff quarter-final return leg of La Boulangère Wonderligue, the 15-time French champions were once again surprised at home and exit the title race, eliminated by a single point over the two matches. In the other evening game, Charnay upset Angers to secure a historic place in the final four.
Tarbes, Bourges’ executioner once again
The Prado fell silent, stunned at the final buzzer. Bourges was still leading by six points with four minutes remaining but cracked under Tarbes’ revolt. François Gomez’s players won 82-79 in a totally crazy finish, thus eliminating the most titled LBWL club, just like last year at the same stage of the competition.
Over the two games, Bourges is eliminated by a single point (155-156) despite winning the first leg (76-74). Nigerian center Murjanatu Musa (28 points on 12/18 shooting and 11 rebounds) scored the decisive basket in the last second, on an assist from Endy Miyem, who delayed retirement with her best performance of the season (19 points).

This elimination tarnishes an almost perfect regular season, finished undefeated at home with 19 wins in 22 games. For Bourges, next Saturday’s French Cup final will be the only chance to salvage a now disappointing league season. Despite Tima Pouye‘s strong game (19 points), it wasn’t enough against Tarbes’ determination.
😕 Ce soir, la déception est immense… Notre parcours s’arrête ici dans ces Playoffs.

Charnay, historic first semi-final
The evening’s other clash offered an equally crazy scenario. Charnay, who needed to overcome an 11-point deficit against Angers after losing the first leg, rose perfectly to the occasion in front of their home crowd in the boiling atmosphere of Prissé’s « hangar ». Led by the huge performance of Monique Akoa-Makani (22 points, 10 assists and 8 steals for a 30 evaluation), future Phoenix WNBA player and… Bourges player, the Pinkies won 62-50 and secured their first qualification for the Women’s League semi-finals.
For Angers, the dream ends by the smallest margin, with just one point difference over the two games. A frustrated Coach Aurélie Bonnan acknowledged in Ouest-France her team’s nervousness in money-time:
« We lose 23 balls, we don’t manage our emotions. Charnay deserves their victory. Our hands were shaking when we had the opportunity to make a gap at the end of the match. That’s how it is, we lack some emotional management, but the girls fought until the end. We don’t score enough points. We defend well but you can’t win a game like this scoring 50 points. »
Stéphane Leite, Charnay’s coach, praised his team’s spirit: « The most important thing is that we continued to believe until the end. We played a competitive game, like fighters, like warriors for 40 minutes… That’s our merit. We never gave up. »
CBBS now waits to know their opponent: it will be either Basket Landes or ASVEL Féminin. Answer this Wednesday evening, along with the other quarter-final between Lattes-Montpellier and Flammes Carolo (+18 for the Ardennes team before playing in Hérault).
