Already accustomed to spectacular comebacks during March Madness 2025, Florida did it again this Monday night in the NCAA final against Houston. Down by 12 points, the Gators managed another stunning comeback to win (65-63) and secure their third national title, led by Walter Clayton Jr. who was decisive in the second half and named Final Four MOP.

This Monday in San Antonio, everything seemed to be going Houston’s way. Their defense completely smothered Florida star Walter Clayton Jr., who didn’t score a single point in the first half. But as in their previous two games, the Gators found a way to come back, carried by a solid team effort and a red-hot Will Richard in the first act (18 points, including 4 three-pointers).
Clayton, who remained scoreless until the 25th minute, then ignited the arena with free throws followed by two three-point plays, reviving his team. He finished with 11 points and 7 assists, and was rightfully named Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
« It’s not just me, we have a whole team capable of making a difference, » Clayton said after the game. « They carried me until I found my rhythm. »
With this victory, Florida achieves a historic triple (2006, 2007, 2025) and gives Todd Golden, 39, his first NCAA championship. He becomes the youngest coach to win the title since Jim Valvano in 1983. The title is also the first for an SEC team since Kentucky in 2012.
Houston, despite L.J. Cryer’s efforts (19 points), lacked efficiency from long range (2/14 from three-point range in the first half) and saw their usual strengths – offensive rebounding and intense defense – overcome by Florida’s determination. The cruel scenario ends a great season for the Cougars, who still managed to reach another national final.
