NM1 Format
After six years of a formula known for its complexity, the Nationale 1 will be simplified starting from the 2024/25 season. Adopted in 2018, the new formula for Nationale 1 never achieved unanimous support from clubs. After six seasons, the three pools, particularly the obscure intermediate group, will be replaced from the 2024/25 season with a simplified championship.
The first phase will still be played under the same system, with 14 teams on each side. The second phase will undergo changes: the top seven teams from each group will move to the upper pool, while the bottom seven will go to the lower pool. As currently, direct results from phase 1 matchups will be carried forward.
The winner of the second phase will be promoted to Pro B, but will no longer be crowned French champion. The title will be awarded after the playoffs.
