JAV in playoff race without Mourtala
After delivering his best performance of a rather mixed season (18 points and 9 rebounds against SCABB), averaging 6.3 points and 3.6 rebounds over 28 games, Serge Mourtala was forced to leave Vichy’s last game against Évreux prematurely. The diagnosis is in: foot fracture. While the exact duration of his unavailability hasn’t been communicated yet, it seems unlikely that the center will play again this season.
« Serge has suffered a foot fracture. He is already being taken care of by the club’s medical staff and has started his period of rest and treatment, » JA Vichy stated in a press release this Wednesday.
This setback comes as JAV is still fighting for Pro B playoff qualification (12th with 16 wins and 16 losses, with six games remaining in the regular season). His absence will likely impact coach Dounia Issa’s frontcourt rotation. An emblematic player known for his impact and loyalty to the club, Mourtala will leave a void in the paint currently occupied by Cedric Bah, Lucas Dufeal, Brice Eyaga and Damien Nseke Ebele.
