Martin Carrere leaves VCU for Virginia

Martin Carrere (6’8″, 18 years old) stays in Virginia but changes universities, moving from VCU to Virginia. The wing who trained at Union Jeunesse Sportive Buglosienne Pontoise, then Dax, and finally at Limoges CSP’s youth academy, joined Virginia Commonwealth University in 2024. Not yet ready to contribute to the Rams, he opted for redshirt status, allowing him to train with the team but not play in competition. This preserves a year of eligibility.
VCU transfer Martin Carrere has committed to Virginia, he announced on IG.

However, his freshman season won’t be at VCU but with the Virginia Cavaliers. After a mixed first season under Ron Sanchez (15 wins and 17 losses) in the highly competitive ACC conference, the Cavaliers hope to improve with Martin Carrere. As for Carrere, we’ll likely be able to observe his development during the U19 World Cup this summer in Lausanne, Switzerland. The former Cercle Saint-Pierre prospect is indeed among the best wings of the 2006 French generation.
