Nantes’ nightmare evening: « basketball mess » and the loss of Bryce Nze
Alexandre Lacoste
Bad news confirmed for Nantes Basket Hermine: Bryce Nze (6’7″, 27 years old), one of their most consistent players this season, will not play again in 2024-2025. The American-Nigerian forward dislocated his shoulder Friday night during the loss against Chartres and as feared, he will be out for at least six weeks. This absence means his season is over.
The verdict is in, confirmed by Presse Ocean: injured in the shoulder after a fall during Friday’s game against Chartres, Bryce Nze is out for the remainder of the season. « Bryce will be sidelined until the end of the season due to a dislocated shoulder, » his coach Rémy Valin acknowledged right after the game. NBH officially announced an absence « of at least six weeks, » with the last game scheduled for May 13 against Poitiers.
Having returned to Nantes mid-season, the 6’7″ forward had quickly established himself as a key player. In 18 Pro B games, contributing to 10 wins, he averaged 11.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. On February 28, he delivered an outstanding performance against SCABB, recording 14 points, 19 rebounds, and 5 assists in a crucial victory.
This new setback adds to a very difficult season for NBH, ranked 16th out of 20 with a four-win cushion over the first relegation spot (Chartres) with eight games remaining in the regular season. Without their anchor in the paint, Rémy Valin’s team will need to find new solutions to secure survival in the league, which has become the priority. Unless a medical replacement is signed. While NBH has already signed three temporary players, they can still sign a medical replacement.
