Vasilije Micic close to EuroLeague return with Hapoel Tel-Aviv

EuroLeague - After two mixed seasons in the NBA, Vasilije Micic is reportedly about to return to EuroLeague. Hapoel Tel-Aviv, newly promoted to the competition, could make a major move by signing the Serbian guard according to Encestando.

After an underwhelming stint in the NBA, Vasilije Micic (6’5″, 31 years old) appears ready to return to Europe. Hapoel Tel-Aviv, winner of the 2025 EuroCup and thus promoted to EuroLeague, has reportedly reached an agreement with the Serbian point guard according to Spanish media Encestando, with a contract estimated at 4.5 million euros net per season.

A resounding return for the former EuroLeague MVP

After leaving for the NBA in summer 2023, Vasilije Micic never really had the opportunity to fully express himself across the Atlantic. Playing successively for Oklahoma City Thunder, Charlotte Hornets, and Phoenix Suns, he averaged 6.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 41 games during the 2024-2025 season. Decent statistics but far from his major role played in EuroLeague with Anadolu Efes.

Two-time European champion with the Istanbul club (2021 and 2022), MVP of the 2020-2021 season, and regular member of the competition’s all-star teams, the Serbian had made his mark with his leadership, basketball IQ, and ability to shine in crucial moments.

Hapoel Tel-Aviv ready to make a big move

According to Encestando, Hapoel Tel-Aviv – which will play its very first EuroLeague campaign – wants to build an ambitious roster around Micic. The Israeli club, backed by significant financial resources, is reportedly offering an exceptional contract: 4.5 million euros net, an amount almost unattainable for most European clubs.

This EuroLeague return would also mark a return to high-level competition for Micic, who had already been courted in recent weeks by Anadolu Efes and Panathinaikos, managed by Ergin Ataman, his former coach in Istanbul. If signed, Hapoel Tel-Aviv would not only acquire an MVP-caliber player but also make a strong statement to establish its credibility on the European stage.
