Yohann Sissoko (ASVEL) delivers one of the best performances in U21 championship history!

Yohann Sissoko (6’4″, 18 years old), ASVEL’s promising young guard, had the opportunity to show his skills during the last two games of the EuroLeague regular season against Baskonia and Monaco. Previously rarely used (three brief appearances on the European stage before these two games), he took advantage of the favorable context to display his aggressiveness and remind everyone of Villeurbanne’s initial youth development project.
With ASVEL’s EuroLeague season already wrapped up, Yohann Sissoko was integrated into the rotation for the last two games. On April 4 in Vitoria against Baskonia, he recorded 4 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in 11 minutes in a heavy loss. Less successful scoring-wise against Monaco at the Astroballe on April 10, he remained active with 3 rebounds and 3 assists in 13 minutes. He notably stood out for his aggressiveness, even committing two fouls on box-outs.

Previously limited to three EuroLeague appearances and five in Betclic ELITE (1.8 points average), Sissoko showed he could bring energy and toughness to the game despite his young age. Good news for ASVEL, whose young talent development project seemed to have been put on hold in recent seasons after the departures of Victor Wembanyama and Zaccharie Risacher.
Trained at Marne-la-Vallée, ASVEL’s partner club, Yohann Sissoko is one of the very best players in the U21 ELITE championship. He’s averaging 20.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 20 games. He recently showcased his talent with two remarkable performances: 45 points against Paris and 31 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists against Elan Chalon on March 31.
Already a U18 international last summer, he is expected to play a major role this summer with the French youth team at the U19 World Cup in Lausanne. The likely absence of Nolan Traoré, expected to enter the NBA draft, should offer him more responsibilities in the backcourt. He hopes to have more responsibilities this Sunday in the league against ESSM Le Portel, with Edwin Jackson still injured at guard, along with Joffrey Lauvergne and Ben Bentil in the frontcourt.
