Melvyn Ebonkoli (6’6″, 23 years old) is leaving Kansas City. The French forward, who had a solid season with the Roos averaging 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds with 50% shooting efficiency, has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal. The Paris region native, who played for Le Mans, Putnam Science Academy and Missouri State, continues his journey in the United States, looking for a new opportunity.

A new chapter for Melvyn Ebonkoli

Born in Trappes (Yvelines), Melvyn Ebonkoli grew up in the MSB program, while also being part of the French youth national teams alongside Theo Maledon and Killian Hayes. Together, they won the U16 European Championship in 2017 before earning a silver medal at the U17 World Cup in 2018.

After moving to the United States in 2019, he first joined Putnam Science Academy high school (Connecticut), known for its basketball program, before entering Missouri State. Rarely used during his first NCAA season (5 appearances), he was then redshirted. In 2022-2023, he revived his career at Independence Community College where he established himself as a reliable player, particularly in rebounding.

This season at Kansas City (UMKC), the French forward found his place in the Roos’ rotation. Consistent in his effort, he averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 21 minutes per game, with good shooting efficiency (50%).

In a message posted on his social media, Melvyn Ebonkoli thanked his close ones and the Kansas City staff:

« Reflecting on my time at UMKC, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my family, friends, and mentors who have been with me every step of the way. I sincerely thank Coach Marvin Menzies and his staff for believing in me and giving a young man from Paris the opportunity to live his dreams. Thanks to my teammates for their brotherhood and to the trainers for their dedication to my health and performance. I was honored to wear the Kansas City Roos jersey. After careful consideration with my family, I have decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal. »

A new chapter now opens for this hardworking power forward/center, still looking for the best opportunity to continue his development in American college basketball.
